Cash for Cake! -- Fund Raising for Headway

As I leave the country exactly four weeks from Saturday just gone, I decided to set myself a challenge for the remaining four weeks: to raise as much cash as I can for Headway, the brain injury association.
I have named this challenge: Cash for Cake! as I will be baking my way to a target of £100. The events I have planned so far include Cakeday Tuesday: my weekly contribution to my mum and her co-workers at the office, in exchange for a donation to the cause; and a pudding party for friends in a local park.

I first became interested (and to be honest, aware) of Headway's work at a conference focusing on disabilities in the higher education environment in Huddersfield. There, I met Kathryn Myring, who was representing the charity.
Since I have moved to MK for a couple of months, I have been volunteering with my local Headway group. It really is a fantastic place. Nationally, Headway run a free helpline, fantastic information service and day centres across the country for people with an acquired brain injury.

Acquired brain injury just means brain injury which did not occur prior to or at birth. The most common cause is trauma caused by car and motorcycle accidents. Other visitors to the centres may be survivors of stroke, brain infection or brain tumours. The effects of brain injury are varied and complex, often affecting speech, mobility, concentration and memory and causing symptoms such as seizures, loss of vision and hearing. Headway does a fantastic job in providing a service whereby visitors may socialise with other people who have a similar disability, allowing their carers/families a much needed break. Activities are provided such as (for example, based on our local Headway): physio, art, music and day trips.

While I'm here, i may as well plug my fund raising page on JustGiving >>click here.
